FAQs

Please bring your MediCare Card and health insurance details if applicable. Ensure that you have an up to date referral.  Bring relevant X-rays and scans to each consultation, not just reports. If you have had medical imaging in a public hospital, you will need to bring a disc or films. Although we can now access some private imaging online, the system can fail – so if in doubt, bring your films.

Having private cover has several advantages. You will be able to have an operation performed by Dr Mison with a minimal delay in a private hospital. Depending on the condition, this will be within days (for certain injuries) or within 6 weeks for joint replacements if necessary. Your surroundings are more comfortable and physiotherapy will be more comprehensive. Rehabilitation is easy to access.

However, if you do not have private cover, Dr Mison can arrange for you to have surgery in the public system under his care  as he has a VMO appointment. A waiting list will apply though. This is on average 12 months for major surgery like joint replacement and 6 months for minor surgery like knee arthroscopy. Also, at many times, your surgery or parts of it will be carried out by a Registrar in Training, under Dr Mison’s supervision.

A gap is the difference between the fee for a procedure and what you receive back from  your health fund. Often, we utilise the ‘no gap’ option and there are no out of pocket expenses. It all depends on the type of procedure, complexity and your particular fund. We will let you know if there is going to be a gap for your procedure.
